The Batavian had this story first, and includes mug shots

First, I have to say I love that the Batavia has the mug shots with the article. It makes it more real. I think that is part of the problem with our community. We want to know the news, but not have it in our "backyard". It can happen to someone else, not me. What will it take for people to realized that, although it may not be a new trend in Batavia, that its a problem here. How can we get people to open their eyes and what will it take? How do we get people involved for change?

Hi Iricci:

I agree that the mug shots make the problem more immediate and real. I appreciate the good job that The Batavian is doing in raising the level of awareness of the problem. Hopefully the community norms and attitudes about the misuse of alcohol and drugs will continue to change in a positive direction until it becomes so stigmatized that people just understand that you don't about alcohol and drug in Genesee and Orleans counties. It would be like farting in an elevator or picking your nose at the dinner table - it just isn't done.

Thanks for your comments on the blog. I appreciate them.

All the best,
