Power of the peer group: need to fit in leads to trouble

When I was a kid my best friend was Jack Donahue. His mother and my mother were friends so when I wanted to do something and she wouldn't let me I would say, "Jack Donahue's mother is letting him do it", and she would say "you're not Jack Donahue." And then to cap off her point she would say, "If Jack Donahue was going to jump off a bridge, would you jump off a bridge???"

I usually had nothing to say to her. I was at a loss for words. But my mother taught me to be my own person and listen to my own inner voice. I have always been skepical of other's ideas. Being the oldest of 5 children, I am the leader, not the follower.

Watch this video. It only takes 0:31. You'll get the point.
